Rolling in the Dough?
So it's the burning question on the boardwalk.

"How many pizzas do you think they make in a day?"

Admit it. You've thought it ... you've asked it ... you've heard others around you ask it. You can't help it. They're like a machine. Mack & Mancos kicks out more pizza than there are grains of sand in your shorts - when you get home from the beach!

As you walk down the boardwalk, you have to ask what the heck is going on over there? While all the other pizza shops sell a slice here and a slice there ... Mack & Mancos has a line down the boardwalk ... people waiting for tables, people waiting for counter space, people ... 4 and 5 deep waiting at the window to order a slice and a soda. It's crazy!

A Finely Tuned Machine
I believe Mack & Mancos is one of the more entertaining spots in Ocean City. You can easily pass 15 minutes just watching the crazy operation going on. The pizza flipper dudes are throwing 2 shells at a time ... one guy throws while the other sauces ... through a hose! Cheese by the fistfulls! They have a guy just sitting there watching the 2 ovens ... taking pizzas out, so the pizza makers don't have to stop what they're doing. An army of counter dudes and pizza waiters are ferrying slices around. It looks like Santa's Workshop - pizza style.

It's organized chaos. Has anyone else wondered how 5 guys can be yelling things like "fire 2 'ronis" and "plain walkup" and a dozen other things from different directions ... and somehow, it all gets done? Amazing.

Down to The Numbers
So we don't have an official statement from Mack & Manco's owners. The pizza flipper dudes won't tell. Even our inside sources of pizza delivery dudes (inside the Mack & Manco's empire) don't seem to know the answer to how many pizzas they make. It's one of Ocean City's best kept secrets.

So we went "under cover". It was a tough job ... sitting down at each of Mack & Manco's locations, multiple days ... at different times during the day. We ran a stopwatch (true, we're THAT lame). We tallied results. Did some math, some estimating ... and counted a lot of pizza shells flying through the air. It was at this point, I was glad I spent 4 years in college getting a math degree. I would have been more interested in statistical analysis and data collection - if I knew where it would one day lead me.

Our best guess is that (during busy times) each store makes between 12 and 14 pizzas every 5 minutes! ... that's around 150 pizzas every hour during busy hours. We'll leave it up to you to do the rest of the math of how many stores, how many hours, how many days ... how much money.

But one thing's for sure ... it's a lot of dough!
